Common Questions

Get some answers to some of the most frequent questions people ask about pulsed biofeedback.

Is this a “mystical” or “new age” treatment?

No.

We may talk about “energy” but this treatment is is not really a mystical or new age treatment. This does not mean we do not support alternative or holistic approaches to healing.

All we are saying is that this particular type of treatment has its roots in more traditional science.

Pulsed biofeedback therapy is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction and may sometimes be called “Pulsed Electromagnetic Field” (PEMF) therapy. It is part of a growing field of medicine called “energy medicine”.

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and energy medicine use the fundamentals of physics, biophysics, biological electronics and the role of various forms of energy such as electricity, magnetism, electro-magnetism, chemical energy, vibration and gravity.

Electrical energy in the body is already used by the medical community in well known medical ECG and EEG procedures.

An ECG (ElectroCardioGraph) is a simple procedure that picks up and records the electricity in and around the heart.

An EEG (ElectroEncephaloGraph) picks up and records the electricity in and around the brain, the so-called ‘brain waves’.

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy) also uses the energy waves in the body. It is used to seek out and stimulate healing in damaged or “ill” waves in the body.

The study of energy medicine has become extremely engaging among both patients and physicians and is leading to techniques that will be a significant part of medicine and how we treat the body’s ailments in the future.

Some physicians are already incorporating pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) devices into their standard clinical equipment.

Is this treatment backed by any real science?

Yes.

Most people will already know about the ECG (ElectroCardioGraph). Many may already have had one done at their doctor’s. It is a simple procedure that picks up and records the electricity in and around the heart.

A heart cannot function without its electrical parts that generate, conduct and thus guarantee the flow of electricity through it to keep it beating. Sometimes its beating even has to be carried on by an implanted external electricity-generating device (a pacemaker).

It is the same with our brains. The EEG (ElectroEncephaloGraph) picks up and records the electricity in and around the brain, the so-called ‘brain waves’.

So both the ECG and the EEG pick up waves, and we hope, that these waves are normal. Sometimes they are not.

There are many more waves in our body which have not been used yet by doctors. Examples include electrical waves of ill or inflamed parts of our body. Pulsed biofeedback combined with pulsed electromagnetic fields can use these “ill” waves. It can find them and stimulate healing with special waves of its own, which fit exactly to the “ill” waves.

In the end, the underlying scientific process behind pulsed biofeedback treatment is the concept of resonance in physics. Resonance is a movement or oscillation that happens when one system is affected by another system that is itself oscillating at the right frequency.

Your body will resonate with the specific fields of energy which it needs to facilitate healing and optimal wellness.

The proper resonance for your body is detected via the subtle response in your vascular automonic signal or VAS which is assessed by your pulse. The practitioner matches finely tuned pulsed-frequencies with the frequencies of your body.

What’s particularly unique is that even while we are in the process of assessing, you are simultaneously receiving healing energy at the same time.

Who can be treated with pulsed biofeedback?

Any age group can be treated with therapeutic pulsed biofeedback – from infants to adults.

Those with pacemakers should not be treated.

Do you have any medical proof that this works?

Yes.

Exactly how does pulsed biofeedback work?

Pulsed biofeedback therapy is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.

It uses a highly focused pulsed electromagnetic field that penetrates deep into a targeted region of the body to painlessly stimulate tissues and “jump-start” cellular activities. It incorporates and integrates the latest scientific findings about how the human body regulates and heals itself.

The highly focused pulsed frequencies stimulate connective tissue in the body also known as the extracellular matrix. This connective tissue is a storage place for nutrients and toxins.

Stimulation of the connective tissue enhances the release of toxins leading to improved detoxification. It also enhances the absorption of nutrients into the cells and stimulates cellular repair and regeneration.

Pulsed biofeedback uses a pulsed-frequency which incorporates signals from the autonomic nervous system. Your pulse is monitored for slight changes in rhythm and quality when the frequencies are brought into your electromagnetic field. If there is a positive pulse reaction, it indicates that that particular frequency is needed to re-establish homeostasis in the body.

Pulsed biofeedback is based on finding blocked areas in your body that cause pain, inflammation and disease. Then stimulating these areas to encourage movement, healing and regeneration.

Areas in the body that were once “stuck” or stagnant become activated as a result of this electromagnetic stimulation.

Can it be used to treat medical conditions?

Yes.

Pulsed biofeedback therapy is an excellent addition to any type of medical or naturopathic treatment plan.

Numerous types of mild to severe medical conditions can be supported and aided with the use of pulsed biofeedback treatment as a supportive therapy.

Chronic back pain and joint pain, those suffering from headaches, mood disorders, hormonal and digestive conditions, as well as neurological and circulatory disorders can significantly benefit from pulsed biofeedback therapy.

Patients on chemotherapy or radiation, for instance, who have pulsed biofeedback therapy, often experience a significant decrease in side-effects, thus finding their quality of life much improved.

Stroke patients tend to recover quicker when using pulsed biofeedback therapy.

Skin conditions, such as eczema and allergies can also improve.

What happens during a pulsed biofeedback session?

treatmentsession2

During your session you will be seated, fully clothed, in a comfortable chair while your certified ONDAMED practitioner uses the pulsed biofeedback equipment.

Your practitioner will proceed to painlessly scan your body using the biofeedback equipment. During the scan the machine is seeking out areas in your body in need of attention.

The practitioner is trained to assess your body’s vascular automonic signal (VAS) by feeling your pulse. When there is a reaction in your VAS we will adjust the ONDAMED machine to the specific energy program for your body. She will continue treatment wherever there may be areas of blockage, inflammation, old scar tissue or some other hidden issue that seems to require a specific field of energy to resolve itself. Even while she is in the process of assessing, you are simultaneously receiving healing energy at the same time.

During this scanning process you may experience a mild tingling sensation, a feeling of warmth, or nothing at all.

A typical treatment lasts about 40 minutes.

Patients consistently report leaving a session feeling less pain, more relaxed and refreshed, able to think more clearly, and better prepared for life’s challenges.

What results can I expect?

Each pulsed biofeedback session is unique to each patient, so everyone won’t react the same way.

Everyone has different conditions that are being treated from chronic pain to mood disorders. So it is very hard to say general results.

However, patients often leave the session saying they feel less pain, are more relaxed and refreshed, and are able to think more clearly.

Is biofeedback technology safe?

Biofeedback technology is a non-invasive safe technique.

At the Pulsed Biofeedback Clinic we require a trained and certified professional to manage the equipment, interpret changes and monitor the patient.

The treatment involves a very low-level pulsed electromagnetic frequency in the range of 0.1-32,000 Hz, which have not been shown to harm the body.

The Pulsed Biofeedback Clinic has chosen to use the ONDAMED brand of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) device for all treatment sessions.

There are other pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) devices available but we have chosen the ONDAMED based on its solid track record, clinical testing, sophisticated pre-set programs (combinations of effective fields of energy based on years of practitioners’ successes in the field), and most importantly, the ability to customize very specific programs of energy for each individual client.

The ONDAMED device is registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a Biofeedback Class II medical device, Category Neurology. It has been approved as a safe non-invasive secondary therapeutic device in the treatment of pain, discomfort, or general malaise.
The ONDAMED device has been used in Europe as an approved medical device for the last 15 years.
